Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Bodarborth are a pair of picturesque estate cottages constructed from crazed rubble stone with slate roofs. They date from the 18th century. The front range is arranged in a T-shape, with two storeys. The three-window front has a central gabled projection that incorporates a recessed porch and a window above. The original windows were attractive mullion-and-transom type windows with iron tracery; this tracery survives in the left and centre windows of No. 2, but has been lost from the right-hand windows. The tracery is characterized by elongated hexagons with a row of lozenge shapes between them. The stonework incorporates stone voussoirs and slate sills. The porch features an elliptical arch and a half-glazed door. Patterned tracery is present in the overlight, and the window above the porch is set within an arched recess. The chimneys are constructed with red brick bases, which step up to paired, diagonally-set shafts, finished with nogged brick cornices. The rear wing is parallel to the main range. The interior, which has not been inspected, is said to include staircases with square balusters on a cut string with shaped brackets, marble fireplaces, and wide-boarded doors in the rear wing.
