Description
The gatehouse and bridge at Ty Mawr is a rectangular, two-storey structure featuring gables on the north and south sides. It is constructed of rubble with dressed quoins in Sutton stone and has a slate roof. The gables are topped with copings and ball-finials, and there is a sundial inscribed with "DVM SPECTAS FUGIO." The main entrance is a two-centred arched doorway that contains a door, believed to be from the 17th century, made of studded planks with strap hinges. The north doorway features a Tudor arch and provides access to a pigeon loft above, which has 40 nesting holes.
On the west wall of the gatehouse, there is an added one-storey bakehouse built with matching materials, which includes a chimney on the left side. In front of the gatehouse, there is a small stone bridge that crosses the nant Aberthin. The interior is believed to retain a fireplace and oven.
