Description
Rectory Farm is a two-storey building with a T-shaped plan, constructed in the mid-19th century. It features a range aligned on an east-west axis, with a projecting gabled range at the east end on a north-south axis. The exterior is made of random rubble with freestone quoining and dressings. The steeply pitched gabled slate roof is adorned with three tall decorative chimney stacks that have rubble bases, ashlar shafts, and tapered tops with moulded strings.
All elevations showcase pronounced gabled dormers of varying sizes. The front elevation exhibits strong ecclesiastical influences, featuring timber casements with trefoiled heads. A central lean-to porch is topped with a pierced Gothic cross that has chamfered ends above the gable. To the left, there are a pair of tall, trefoil-headed windows set within a shallow pointed arched recess, which includes a sunk trefoil at the head, and a partial stringcourse above. The large dormer has two trefoil-headed lancets, while a narrower dormer on the right side has a single matching lancet.
The projecting gable wing includes a three-sided bay at ground floor level, topped with a stone slab conical roof and flanked by trefoil gablets. At the first floor, there are three trefoil-headed windows with a central light that steps up. A narrow gable light is present in the attic. The mid-19th century timber casements are intact on all other elevations. The building was not available for inspection at the time of the survey in June 1995.
