Description
The barn and stable range at Great Frampton Farm comprises two phases of construction, both built from local limestone rubble with dressed quoins and corrugated asbestos roofing. The barn, the earlier build, has a slightly higher roofline and runs north to south, with a hayloft at the north end. Cart doors are located on the north side, with the west door blocked by concrete, leading to the hayloft above. A mid-20th century concrete lean-to projects from the east side of the barn.
The stable range, a later addition, has a doorway inserted on its east wall, below a hayloft opening, and a central doorway flanked by windows (all with segmental heads) on its west wall, also opening to the hayloft above.
The barn’s roof is a three-bay structure featuring principal rafters, halved and pegged at the apex, and scarfed ties (one missing). Two tiers of trenched purlins are present, with some replacements, along with a replaced ridge piece. Some of the secondary rafters are original, while others have been renewed. The interior of the stable was not accessible for inspection during a recent survey.
