Description
The Mount is a late Georgian villa featuring rendered walls and shallow pitched hipped slate roofs with tall narrow brick ridge stacks. The building has two storeys and predominantly showcases 12-pane sash windows with narrow glazing bars set in reveals. The main south wing includes a central two-window range topped with a moulded cornice. It features a ground floor flat-roofed portico adorned with a heavy moulded entablature and side pilasters that have cornices, along with a segmental-arched doorway complete with a keystone. To the right, there is a projecting two-storey canted flat-roofed bay that has cornice moulding and a parapet, with 4-pane sashes on each elevation and storey. At both ends, there are hipped-roofed outer bays, each with a two-window range on both floors. Facing east, a second frontage has been created for The Mount Lodge, a separate dwelling, which also features additional 12-pane sashes. The rear of the building reveals the double-pile plan of the eastern wing, along with the rear elevation of the south wing that includes a 16-pane sash and a staircase window with arched lights.
Inside, the portico lobby leads to a wide and deep hall with a low plaster ceiling featuring lozenge panels. There is a panelled basket-arch leading to the stairs at the rear right. The main rooms have six-panelled doors, panelled reveals, and shutters, while the study is entirely panelled. The drawing room is notable for its ornate carved white marble fireplace, which includes a round-arched cast iron grate.
