Description
Tynton is a two-storey house dating from the 17th century, having undergone subsequent alterations. The plan was modified by blocking the original central entrance. The front elevation is cement-rendered, featuring mostly horned sash windows with cambered brick voussoirs. A boarded-up window occupies the centre where the original door was located, and a boarded door is positioned to the extreme right, opening onto a small lobby behind a chimney breast. A 20th-century window is set into the ground floor on the left side. The roof is slate and corrugated, with rubble chimney stacks, the one on the right set into the gable end. The right-hand gable end is asymmetrical due to a deep, continuous lean-to with a cat-slide corrugated roof, which extends across two-thirds of the rear. This lean-to is set back near the corner of the left-hand gable end, and includes an outshut with two small segmental arched windows and a separate chimney stack.
Internally, a winding stone staircase is said to have been located at the left end (now blocked up), while a timber staircase is situated at the opposite end. The internal doors are boarded, and false ceilings conceal original beams. Segmental arched cellars are present. The house was noted to be in poor condition during an inspection in 1990, when access to the first floor and roof was not possible, and its condition has further deteriorated since then.
