Description
Paran Capel y Bedyddwr is a stone building, now rendered, with a slate roof and ringed red clayware ridge tiles. It is small in scale, with the caretaker's house extending to the west towards Oak Ridge. The entrance features a 4-panelled door located on the canted southwest corner. On the south wall, there are two tall round-headed timber windows, flanked by two shorter round-headed windows that light the gallery. The windows on the north side have been obscured by later extensions. The canted corner is adorned with an ogee moulding that returns to the square under the eaves. A date plaque above the door reads "ADEILADWYR 1819 / HELATHWYD 1856 / ADNEWYDDWYD 1898."
Inside, the entrance door leads to a cross passage, with a central door that opens into the main body of the chapel, and a staircase at the north end leading to the gallery. The walls are plastered and lined to resemble ashlar, rising to a coved ceiling that features a central ventilation rose. The inserted gallery encircles three sides of the chapel, supported by two cast iron rectangular columns decorated with trailing husk motifs in the recessed angles and a fluted frieze. The gallery has a bellied iron lattice front, set on a pitch-pine substructure that includes both dentils and modillions. Steps on either side at the east lead up to a part-octagonal pine pulpit, which is set against an arch-headed recess flanked by fluted pilasters. The gallery contains four rows of seats at the rear, with two additional rows returning on each side, providing seating for approximately 200 people. A black marble plaque commemorating the Sunday school conductors is mounted on the wall above the pulpit recess, along with nine similar tablets with gilded lettering arranged around the arch. A door on the north wall opens to steps leading up to a spacious vestry.
