Description
The Former Co-operative Wholesale Society Building is a three-storey structure built from coursed rock-faced stone with a slate roof. The street-facing elevation features four bays, with the two central bays showcasing plate glass windows on the first floor, separated by a wooden Ionic pilaster. The upper sections of these windows are adorned with coloured glass in leaded lights, each featuring a circular pivot-hung vent at the center. Above the windows, a fascia displays the words "DRAPERY AND MILLINERY" in Arts and Crafts lettering against a roughened background, complemented by a dentilled cornice. The top floor includes two simple rectangular openings and projecting eaves. The two narrower end bays are flanked by pilasters and extend above the eaves to form a small gable. The first floor windows in these bays are similar, but the attic floor features a circular window with an aproned architrave and an exaggerated keystone. On the ground floor, the elevation has channel rusticated piers, with the left bay originally having a segmental arched opening that is now blocked. It is noted that the ground floor elevation of the three southern bays has been altered.
