Description
The monument to Benjamin and Elizabeth Noyle is the most elaborate structure in Pontycymer Cemetery. It is made of ashlar and rock-faced sandstone, marble, and glazed tiles, and is set into the hillside at different levels. From the cemetery lane, rock-faced entrance piers with ashlar pyramidal caps and double iron gates lead to stone steps that rise to a vault featuring blue glazed tiles and a marble entrance slab. On this slab stands a stone and marble monument, which includes a decorative marble kerb surrounding a tall rectangular plinth with inscription panels on each face, two of which have metal lettering. The plinth is flanked by colonnettes with capitals beneath a moulded pediment adorned with a floral motif. Above this, a part fluted truncated marble column rises. The monument also commemorates Margaret Price, the sister of Benjamin and Elizabeth Noyle.
