Description
Bethlehem Capel Bedyddwyr is a chapel built from local rock-faced stone with sandstone ashlar dressings and a slate roof. The building features a two-stage facade with a gabled top above the upper string course. On the ground floor, there is a central pair of panelled doors set in a round voussoired arch, with the keystone slightly emphasized. Margin-glazed round-headed windows are located on either side of the doors. Above the string course, the quoins transition into flush end pilasters. The upper section has a central triple window, with each light being narrow and round-headed, and the side bays feature similar windows to those on the ground floor. In the tympanum, there is a small aedicule set high, with keyed oculi flanking a central date stone that reads "BETHLEHEM / CAPEL Y BEDYDDWYR / 1871," and below it, "AIL-ADEILADWYD 1876." A foundation stone is placed under the lower left window. The sides of the chapel have two tiers of four margin-glazed round-headed windows, and there is a basement.
The front retaining wall is constructed of rock-faced sandstone with ashlar dressed copings and features a central iron gate.
Inside, the chapel is plastered and has a flat ceiling with a large ventilation rose at the center, retaining its original coloring. It includes a timber gallery on three sides, which is panelled between pilasters and has modillion brackets in the lower mouldings, all supported by iron columns. Stairs are located on each side from the front lobby. The pulpit and pews were removed during a conversion in 1995-1996. Below the chapel, there is a large vestry with four cast iron columns.
