Description
The Mortuary Chapel is a simple, small, single-cell building with a high south porch. It is constructed from snecked rock-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings, featuring a banded Welsh slate roof, blue ridge tiles, and a small ashlar gabled bellcote at the eastern apex. The approach from the south is highlighted by the steeply gabled porch, which has an unmoulded pointed arched doorway made of ashlar, adorned with a narrow rock-faced voussoir band. The porch also includes an elegant decorative wrought iron gate with an Art Nouveau motif and spear finials. Inside, the inner doorway is square-headed, framed by a moulded ashlar surround with a relieving arch above, leading to double black painted boarded doors. The windows, located only on the east and west sides, consist of two pointed lights topped with a triangular light at the apex. Each corner of the chapel features tiered angle buttresses. The interior retains a stone flagged floor and an open timber roof.
