Description

Crown House is a house built in the 19th century. It is constructed of stone, which has been rendered (covered) and painted. The corners are accentuated with quoins, and the front window openings have decorative surrounds. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, and the chimney stacks are rendered and prominent, with additional stacks set at right angles to the rear of the building.

The house is arranged with a central entrance hall containing a staircase which rises through the centre of the building, with principal rooms on either side. A cross passage leads to the rear, and there is a small rear outshut. The front of the building has a symmetrical arrangement of three windows, each with 10/10 panes of glass, with the central window being 6/6. The central entrance has a margin-glazed overlight above a panelled door. Sash windows are also visible on the side elevations. The rear elevation includes smaller windows positioned above the outshut.

A pointed archway with decorative quoins provides access to the front through a garden wall. A courtyard is enclosed by a surrounding wall.

Inside, many original 19th-century features remain, including fireplaces with decorative brackets, panelled doors and door surrounds, panelled reveals and shutters, ceiling mouldings, a main staircase with stick balusters, decorative tread ends and a wreathed handrail, and a cellar accessible by a flight of stone steps.
