Description

22 Newton Nottage Road is a two-storey house built of stone that is rendered and painted, featuring a thatched roof with a simply ornamented ridge, undulating eaves, and pebble dashed end stacks. The building has a three-window range with 3/3 pane casements, cambered lintels over the ground floor windows, and a small window on the right end. The central doorway also has a cambered lintel and a replacement door. There is a shallow masonry projection on the left and a splayed corner on the right, adjacent to a semi-circular projection on the gable end that contains the base of the winding stone stairs. An extension is located at the rear.

While there is no access to the interior, a previous listing description indicates that the house has a central cross passage due to the insertion of a dividing wall on the right, which originally allowed entry directly into a hall on the right. This hall retains a lightly chamfered cambered lintel over a fireplace with a bread oven. On the left, stairs were formerly accessed through a boarded door across the angle. To the left of that, on the former rear wall, is a blocked doorway that may have led to a former cross wing or outshut. The front wall features a recess lit by a small window. To the left of the main entrance is a former heated outer room, which is now used as a dining room. At the rear of the passage, there is a four-centred chamfered arched dressed stone doorway. The roof timbers are exposed on the upper floor.
