Description
66 High Street is a house built in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone with brick dressings and has rendered brick stacks, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building features a two-room central entrance-hall plan with a continuous rear outshut. It stands two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays, with quoins at the corners.
The entrance is highlighted by a Doric pilastered door-case with a plain entablature, featuring a 20th-century half-glazed door beneath an overlight with geometric glazing in a fielded-panel reveal. The windows are recessed 16-pane sashes with sills and stucco cambered arches. The eaves board is plain, and the gables are stone-coped with brick kneelers. The end stacks are corniced.
Inside, the stair hall has elliptical-arched openings to both the ground and first floors, and there is a notable geometric staircase with a wreathed handrail, slender turned balusters, and a clustered newel. The interior also includes panelled window shutters and doors within architraves.
