Description

The South-East Gates and Piers of Penrice Castle serve as a formal entrance to the castle park. The gateway features two square sandstone piers, which are approximately 3.5 meters apart. These piers are heavily rusticated and vermiculated, standing on tall plinths with base moulding and topped with a small cornice. Each pier is adorned with stone finials shaped like elongated globes on thin hollow stems, each featuring a thin vermiculated band around the middle. The globes and cornices have been restored. The gates themselves are simple, made of wrought iron and include dog railings.
