Description
Springfield, also known as the Deaf and Dumb Mission, is a two-storey building constructed of pale ashlar with a slate roof. It features tall chimneys at both ends, although there are two central chimneys on the ridge that have been cut down. The eaves are supported by stone brackets, and the windows predominantly consist of horned sash glazing without glazing bars.
The south front of the building has large two-storey splayed bays at each end, with first-floor windows set in shallow moulded surrounds and a projecting sill band supported by corbels. The taller ground floor windows are adorned with architraves that include bracketed pediments and panels at the frieze level. Between the bays, the wall has been cement rendered, featuring a single first-floor window similar to those in the bays. On the ground floor, there is a former doorway that has been converted into a window with modern glazing, which is topped with a pediment on long brackets.
To the left, there is a flat-roofed Doric porch and two windows that are offset to the side.
