Description
The two granaries at Ty Mawr date from the 19th century and are located facing south. The building on the right is a freestanding rectangular structure, while the one on the left is attached to the southern bay of a barn range that connects at right angles to Ty Mawr house. Both buildings are constructed of narrow coursed stone rubble with dressed stone dressings and putlogs, topped with hipped stone tiled roofs.
The right granary features a symmetrical frontage with three segmental arched doorways, each with keystones, which have been later adapted for use as a doorway and window, with one doorway now blocked. On the first floor, there are three segmental arched windows with keystones, one of which is blocked. The rear elevation facing the farmhouse includes a square-headed doorway with a timber lintel and a boarded door, accessed by four steep stone steps, along with three blocked openings to the right and buttresses at the corners.
The left granary is very shallow, displaying three blocked round arches at ground floor level, complete with voussoirs and a continuous string at the impost level. There is a square-headed doorway in the right arch. On the first floor, there were originally three oculi; currently, one is blocked, one is damaged, and one has had its voussoirs removed. An end stack is located on the right side.
The larger granary on the right has a ground floor stable with a lime plastered interior, some manger fittings, and a cobbled floor. The granary above is supported by a timber framework with chamfered wooden posts and features two main roof trusses consisting of tie beams, collars, and struts. The smaller granary on the left has three trusses of collar and tie, with part of the first floor still intact.
