Description

This is a large farmhouse with an attached farm range, dating from the 18th century. The house is constructed of stone, rendered and painted, with a Welsh slate roof and brick end stacks. The main house is a three-story, four-bay building located to the right, with a two-story wing to the left. This wing is partly incorporated into the main house, but an unconverted bay adjoins a barn, which joins at right angles. A single-story outshut is located at the right end. The main house has a four-window facade on the front, featuring 2/2 horned sash windows with segmental heads on the first floor. Three half-dormers are situated above, also containing 3/3 horned sashes. The ground floor has been remodelled, with a blocked round-headed arch on the left and a front extension that hides 8/8 pane sashes. The main entrance is now located in the lower west wing, with a boarded door and a four-pane overlight set in a similar blocked arch. An external staircase leads to a granary door at first-floor level on the left end, with a further entrance door also located at the end of the left wing. Numerous alterations to the fabric of the building are evident. The rear elevation features an asymmetrical arrangement of windows. The first floor of the main range has segmental arched windows with voussoirs and replaced glazing. The ground floor has three round-headed arches, two blind, and the central arch contains a double multi-pane sash window. The lower range includes a tall external stack separating two large multi-pane round-arched sash windows with radial glazing bars. Ventilation slits belong to the barn at the right end; again, signs of alterations are visible.

The interior reveals several phases of remodelling. The left wing, possibly originally part of the farm range, was converted into a kitchen and service wing and has been remodelled further, with the insertion of two-story windows and a later floor. Rooms are of single depths, featuring six-panelled doors, moulded surrounds and panelled reveals. One chamfered cross beam is visible in the main room, with curved wooden stairs located behind the fireplace—an old arrangement but a later version. In the main house wing to the right, a passage runs behind the front elevation, with rooms opening onto a lake, including one with an early 19th-century basket arch ceiling division. At the right end, there’s a change in levels, with former ground floor features now significantly below ground level and earlier first-floor features beneath the current ceiling level. The property includes vaulted cellars.
