Description
The barn located immediately to the north of Pen-y-Bryn farmhouse is a three-bay structure featuring a wide centrally placed threshing floor. It is built from rubble masonry and topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. The barn has planked opposing double doors, which are flanked by ventilation slits. The front doors extend through the eaves, while the rear doors are positioned slightly below eaves level. The south gable end of the barn partially adjoins the northeast angle of the farmhouse's rear wing. To the north, a cow-house has been mostly demolished and replaced by a late 20th-century building.
Inside, the barn is well preserved and showcases simple Queen post trusses. The ventilation slits have splayed reveals. The threshing floor is paved with flagstones and features raised kerbs made of stones set on edge, with horizontal timber sills above. This design supports a low platform intended for storing corn or grain.
