Description

Ty Mawr is a 17th-century building facing southwest, featuring one storey with semi-attics, roughcast walls, and slate roofs. The rear reveals some visible timber-framing with squarish panels and a small diagonal brace between the corner-post and roof-plate. The continuous outshuts at the back have artificial stone-slate roofs, and there is one modern dormer window in the main roof. A large stone chimneystack at the back of the hall shows significant repairs.

Inside, the left-hand (northwest) room has a chamfered ceiling beam with pyramidal stops and is accessed through an original partition with a pair of doorways that have arched heads, one of which is blocked. This room retains one original door with an arched head. The original hall is entered through a similar partition, which includes one of a pair of very wide arched openings; the other opening is in a section that has been removed. The staircase dates from the early to mid-18th century and features turned oak balusters. The hall ceiling has been inserted, supported by longitudinal beams on brackets (all defaced) against the parlour and on a cross-beam held up by posts. The inner room remains partitioned off and shows visible timber-framing in its rear wall. It has chamfered ceiling beams inserted on edge upon brackets, with one beam retaining its quadruple roll mouldings. The upper storey of the framing is said to have a blocked scratch-moulded window.
