Description

The Old Post Office is a two-storey house with a cellar and attics, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble, which has been whitened, and has a half-hipped slate roof. The windows are 20th-century sash windows, located at the front and rear of the building. The front door has an original timber lintel and beaded frame, now fitted with a later two-panelled door. A stone hood with shaped brackets on either edge shelters the doorway. Brick chimney caps are visible at the ends of the building.

The cellar beneath the inner room features a cobbled and flag-stoned floor, supported by plain ceiling beams. The hall or kitchen contains a large, roughly shaped stone lintel over the chimney (likely reused), and a chimneybreast staircase that extends continuously to the attics, with turned oak balusters. Above the cellar stairs is a built-in cupboard with a fielded-panelled oak front, an oak door, and wavy splats above. A 19th-century bread oven projects into what was formerly a barn. The inner room has a 19th-century two-panelled door. The first floor retains wide oak floorboards and plain 19th-century panelled doors. The roof is original to the building.
