Description

Plas Celyn is a two-storey building with a cellar and attics, constructed of stone, with the south gable end rendered. The east front is approximately symmetrical, featuring chimneys at the front corners. It has later brick sash windows that have been fitted with PVC frames, along with a wooden porch, a front door made up of three by three shaped panels, and dormer windows, all dating from after 1900 and displaying a bold gothic character. There is a blocked original window to the right of the porch, and the original chimney at the rear is rendered. The roof is covered with slate and adorned with terracotta crests and finials, also from after 1900. The rear wing is made of stone with an asbestos slate roof, is one storey high with attics, and features PVC windows.

The front range has an interesting plan related to the P Smith type A, and retains some original four and six fielded-panel oak doors. Inside, there is a hall with stone paving and an original oak staircase leading to the attics, featuring turned balusters and a ramped handrail. The late 19th-century marble chimneypieces add to the interior's character. The cellar beneath the parlour has a cobbled floor. The parlour itself is dado panelled with 17th-century oak wainscot, with the panels and framing mostly chip-carved in more than one pattern. There are additional wainscot panels on doors with stained glass in a blocked window and the porch. The first floor retains original two and four-panelled doors, with an 18th-century plan that includes a southern half accessed through a round wooden arch leading to a block of rooms. The attics have plank doors, while the rear wing features 19th-century and later additions.
