Description

Barclay's Bank is a Victorian building with an earlier core. The front, set back from the street, is two storeys and four windows wide. The ground floor is rendered with vermiculated rustication, while the first floor is rendered smooth. A decorative cornice and entablature run across both floors, with fluted voussoirs framing the window and door openings. The roof is slate-covered, with brick chimney stacks at the ends. The first floor has deeply recessed, horned sash windows with segmental heads. Below, broad bank windows are flanked on the left by a three-panel door with an overlight and on the right by a matching entrance. The rear of the building is constructed of bull nosed rubble and includes a two-storey extension. Internally, the building retains panelled pilasters and cross beams.
