Description
The tomb of Howell Harris, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Gwendoling, is a low chest tomb made of sandstone, dating from 1730. It features a projecting ledger slab with sandstone sides and a plinth. The top face of the slab is inscribed with a scroll margin that includes the inscription: 'In Memory of / Howell Harris who Died March ye 9th 1730 / Aged 58 / Christ was my Guide on / Earth and Death shall / be my gain / etc.' This tomb was erected by Susanna, his beloved wife, from Trevecka. The west end slab has an additional inscription commemorating Susanna Harris, who died in January 1750 at the age of 88. Surrounding the tomb are heavy low cast iron railings from the 19th century, made by Nott & Co of Brecon.
