Description

The outbuilding at Berthlwyd is a Grade II listed structure, built from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof. At the upper end, there is a barn featuring full height double doors, one loop, and an added lean-to on the right side of the doors, along with another loop and a 20th-century brick lean-to on the left. Beyond the barn, there is a door situated between two windows, which likely served as a stable originally; the windows are casement pairs with louvred top lights. Further along, there are two doors alternating with two windows, with the window heads set at different heights. The doors are supported by oak lintels, while the two windows have 20th-century metal glazing. Above the first door, there is a square loft door, and the left end gable features three loops positioned high up.

Inside the barn, there are four tie-beam trusses with rough tie-beams, and the principals are pegged at the apex. There is an internal opening in the stone wall leading to a lofted lower section. The lower part of the building has collar trusses supporting the roof. In the center, there is a cow-house that combines the former stable, which has a door and window to the left, with a wooden partition leading to a lower end stable that also has a door and window.
