Description

Hepste Fawr is a farmhouse built from rubble stone with slate roofs, situated on a downhill slope. The two-storey house features stone end chimneys and has an attached garage or former cart-shed at the upper end, along with a former byre at the lower end. The house does not have an external door and has two windows on each floor. The windows have been renewed and are of the Brecon hopper type, with 9 panes above and square 12 panes with cambered heads below.

There are double wooden doors leading to the garage, which is located up the slope to the right, and the roof continues over this structure. A stub in the wall at the left corner of the house may indicate that the byre has been rebuilt. The byre is low and features a cambered-headed door with stone voussoirs at the upper end, along with grey stone voussoirs. To the left, there is a small square opening, followed by a low loft opening with a modern pair of casement windows under the eaves. Left of centre, there is a former door with bi-colour voussoirs, which has been replaced by a 12-pane window. The end wall of the byre has modern windows inserted on each floor and three vent loops in the gable.

The rear of the byre includes a small lean-to, along with a window and door leading to a passage, both featuring stone voussoirs and located in a modern porch. The house has a southwest rear wing with an end stack and a ground floor lean-to. The first floor has modern slate-hanging and a long modern window to the right. The north front of the wing has a 9-pane window under the eaves to the right, and two cambered-headed 12-pane windows below. The rear left of the house features similar windows on each floor, with all glazing being modern. The lower windows also have stone voussoirs. The interior of the building is not available for inspection.
