Description
Ty Newydd Lower Bridge, also known as Canal Bridge No. 159, is a hump-back bridge constructed of rubble sandstone. It features a segmental arch made with thin voussoirs and has a low parapet with flat coping. The abutments curve outward on both sides, and the parapet is finished with square end piers. On the eastern side, there is a cast iron plaque displaying the bridge number, which is cast in relief at the keystone position. The towpath runs under the bridge on the northern side and includes a stone kerb, while the southern side has a stringcourse that is roughly at water level.
This bridge connects Tynewydd farm with its fields to the east and has a grassy deck. Adjacent to the bridge, a small marina for longboats has been developed. There are also two lozenge-shaped cast iron weight restriction signs.
