Description

The Old Saw Mill is a two-storey house with a lower two-storey former paint shop attached to the right and a former mill attached to the left, with an additional wing at the back. The building is constructed of rubble sandstone and has slate roofs. The house features scribed roughcast painted white, projecting eaves, a stone stack on the left, and a brick stack on the right. It is double fronted with horned sash windows set in architraves and a panelled door. The paint shop has two windows, with blocked openings and a central-pivoting window on the upper right. The mill on the left has a central stone stack, boarded doors on the left (with an overlight) and in the centre, a boarded-up opening on the right under a stone lintel, and a boarded upper-storey opening. The rear of the house is cement rendered and has two windows with casements in the upper storey, a boarded door on the lower right, and an earlier hornless sash window in the lower centre. The paint shop features boarded doors on each storey with windows to the left. The mill has a single two-light casement under a lintel, set back from the angle of the added rear wing, which includes a wheelpit and an arched tailrace entrance at its rear gable end. The saw mill machinery was reportedly removed, but it was not inspected at the time of the survey in August 1997.
