Description
The Bank of Limekilns, located beside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal east of Bridge No 131, is a notable structure built into the bank of the canal. This design allows the kilns to be charged from the level of the towpath, which is an unusual arrangement compared to other similar sites. While this method can be seen at Govilon, it is more typical for the draw arches to be at towpath level with charging occurring at a higher level, as seen in Llangattock and Talybont on Usk. Each kiln in this long bank features a pair of vaulted draw arches, with voussoirs present in the outer arches.
