Description
Lower Lock Bridge, also known as Canal Bridge No 132, is a hump-backed bridge built of rubble sandstone. It features a segmental arch with thin voussoirs and keystones, and has a low parapet. The abutments curve outwards on both sides, and the parapet includes square end piers to the south. On the east side, there is a cast iron plaque displaying the bridge number in relief.
The canal banks on the east side retain the masonry channels of a surviving stop-lock, with a by-pass overflow to the south.
Lock No 64 is the first in a series of five locks that conclude a 37-kilometer pound and raise the canal by 17 meters towards Brecon. The lock chamber is faced in brick, and the lock gates were replaced in 1996.
