Description
The Markets Tavern Hotel, located at Nos 36 and 37 Free Street, is a public house dating from the 19th century. It features a street front that rises three storeys and includes six windows. The roof is slate and hipped, with slightly projecting eaves. The building is constructed of stone rubble laid in courses, with stone lintels and sills for the door and window openings. The upper floors have four-pane horned sash windows, while the ground floor has tripartite sash windows at each end. The entrance to the pub is situated in the third bay from the left, featuring a doorway with pilasters and an entablature, along with a half-glazed door that has a rectangular overlight above it. To the left of this entrance is a former doorway with a rectangular overlight. The right side of the building has a four-window return, and both this side and the rear feature yellow-brick dressings.
