Description

West Lodge is a single-storey lodge built in a picturesque style similar to the other gate lodges of Golden Grove, but uniquely constructed in yellow brick. The building features a range that runs parallel to the road with a forward wing on the left side and an entrance porch located at the right angle. It has a large slate roof topped with a metal ridge and is adorned with octagonal brick chimneys set on weathered offsets. The timber bargeboards are scolloped, and there are timber finials.

At the front, there is a small canted bay window in the gable, which has a slate roof and is topped with a cement lozenge displaying the name 'West Lodge'. This window features four-pane lights and a stone sill. To the right, a four-post porch is situated beneath a low-pitched slate roof, with a central gablet above the entrance that includes V-struts and curved braces. The entrance has a four-panel door, and there are fixed-light windows on each side, which are supported by a row of turned balusters beneath. Similar detailing is found in the return on the right side.

On the left side elevation, there is a mullion-and-transom window with two lights of four panes and a stone sill, although the head has been altered with a concrete lintel. There is also an altered window on the right side. The right side elevation features a mullion window with two lights of four panes. A rear range has been added, constructed in a similar yellow brick.
