Description

This is a late 18th-century house, originally subdivided in the later 19th century, situated on the west side of Bank Buildings. It is a double-pile house of three storeys and a basement, with a five-window facade. The exterior is colourwashed stucco over a rubble core. The roof is slate, with close verges, and the ends feature rendered projecting stacks. A dentil eaves cornice runs along the top.

The second floor has six-pane sash windows, while the first and ground floors have twelve-pane sash windows. A central doorway is sheltered by a Tuscan timber portico with an open pediment featuring dentils on columns and pilasters. Above the recessed, broad, six-fielded panel door (the upper two panels glazed) is a blind radial fanlight.

A shallow forecourt lies to the front, with basement windows visible. Original wrought iron railings, featuring spear-pointed details and urn finials on the stanchions, define the area.

A two-storey service wing adjoins the main house to the left. This wing is also of colourwashed stucco over rubble, with a gently pitched slate roof, close verges, and a rendered stack. It has a dentil eaves cornice and a twelve-pane sash window to the first floor, matching a similar window on the ground floor. A doorway to the right has a 19th-century gabled hood supported by brackets and sunk panelled pilasters. The original six-panel door has a top two-pane glazed section. A rubble revetment wall runs along the front of this wing.

The rear elevation has two six-pane sash windows on the second floor, three twelve-pane sashes on the first floor (matching the ground floor), and a later lean-to projection.
