Description
The former Horeb Wesleyan Chapel was rebuilt in 1849, replacing an earlier chapel from around 1809. It features coursed, squared rubble masonry and has a hipped slate roof with plain eaves. A large round arched window on the first floor is framed by stone voussoirs and includes a cross window with marginal glazing and a stone sill. The entrance is highlighted by a well-crafted timber Doric portico, complete with a full entablature, a moulded modillion cornice, and a triglyph frieze with guttae. The portico is supported by two columns with torus bases, and similar pilasters flank the entrance. Above the six-panel double doors, there is a depressed radial fanlight. A stone staircase with bolection moulded ashlar treads and iron handrails leads up to the entrance. The end elevations also feature single round arched windows that are similar to the front window. The interior may be of interest.
