Description

The Cawdor Arms Hotel is a three-storey building with five windows, featuring a colourwashed plastered front built on rubble. It has a slate roof with a moulded eaves cornice and rendered stacks.

The outer bays on the first floor are slightly advanced and have nine-pane sash windows arranged in a six-over-three configuration. The central section features a tripartite sash window, which consists of a nine-pane sash flanked by narrow side sashes, all set above a continuous sill band.

The outer bays on the first and ground floors have two-storey polygonal bay windows. The first floor has tall eighteen-pane sash windows with a sill band, while the ground floor features twelve-pane sashes. The centre of the first floor includes a tripartite sash window, with a tall eighteen-pane sash window above, which has latticed coloured glass in the top panes and is flanked by narrow side sashes. Eighteen-pane sashes are also present on either side.

A modern ironwork balcony with flagpoles is supported by original Doric columns, which have similar pilasters at the ends. The entablature has been lost. The central doorway is flanked by twelve-pane sashes, but the entrance itself is a modern addition that is not in keeping with the original design.

Original railings with principal rods and urn finials are present in the forecourt between the advanced bays. A later crenellated extension to the right is not included in this description.
