Description
The main gates and gatepiers to Carmarthen Park are an ornate entrance feature dating from 1900. They consist of two tall cast-iron panelled piers that have fielded panels, moulded plinths, cornices, and urns on pedestals at the top. There are also two shorter outer piers that match the design of the main piers. The double high main gates are elaborately decorated with intricate scrollwork and scrolled cresting adorned with flowers. In addition, there are single, simpler pedestrian gates. The gatepiers are marked with the name Coalbrookdale. A plaque on the main gate indicates that these gates were erected by T.J. Harries of Oxford Street, London, in the year 1900, and another plaque notes a restoration in 2001 for Carmarthen Town Council.
