Description

The Elim Independent Chapel is a building constructed in 1849, with renovations in 1887. It features painted stucco with a slate hipped roof and deep flat eaves. The chapel has stucco angle quoins, a plinth, and surrounds for two arched central windows and two outer square-headed doors. The windows have been replaced since 1981 with 20th-century uPVC imitations of the original glazing bars, each containing two arched lights and a roundel. Above the central windows, there are two plaques; the upper one reads "Elim a adeiladwyd 1849 Ac a adgyweiriwyd 1887," while the lower, older plaque states "Elim adeiladwyd 1849." The outer doorways have modern half-glazed doors with colored glass, and the side walls feature a 20th-century uPVC upper window that replaced a sash window.

Inside, the chapel has a near-square layout with a floor that slightly rises towards the back, accommodating pews arranged in three blocks. There is a three-sided gallery with curved angles supported by plain iron posts. The gallery front includes inset panels of filigree cast-iron, separated by arch-panelled piers, with cornices above and below, the lower cornice featuring zigzag moulding. A clock is situated in the center, and there is a plain square set fawr. The pulpit has two arched panels at the front and two set back, all adorned with fretwork decoration, along with a small timber pulpit-back positioned between the front windows. The ceiling features a coved border and a timber-boarded square main section divided by diagonal ribs, with square corner panels and a lozenge-shaped center. The gallery contains curved pews and a 20th-century organ.
