Description
Henfryn Cottage is a large, two-story and basement former mill-owner's house with an attached service wing, dating from the 18th century. The main house is constructed of rubble stone with cambered yellow brick arches above the openings, a pitched slate roof, and yellow brick end stacks. The symmetrical front facade has three bays. A panelled timber door is positioned centrally on the ground floor, above it a rectangular overlight. The remaining ground and first-floor openings are four-pane sash windows with slate sills. A basement window, located beneath the right-hand bay, is entirely exposed due to the sloping ground and contains a vertically bisected two-pane replacement window from the mid-20th century. Cast iron rainwater goods are present, and five solar panels have been added to the roof.
The attached service range is lower in height and situated to the right. It has a colourwashed facade with two bays and includes a boarded timber door on the ground floor left-hand side, with a small two-pane rectangular overlight above. The remaining openings are twelve-pane sash windows.
Inside the main range, a small hallway features a broad stucco archway. Four-panelled timber doors lead to the adjacent reception rooms. A curved timber staircase with turned balusters and a handrail is present. The hallway also has a light, undecorated stucco cornice. The attached service range formerly contained storage and accommodation, including a basement kitchen. A small, steep timber stairwell has been retained.
