Description
Allt-y-Cafan Bridge is a rubble stone bridge built in 1839, featuring a single massive stone arch that spans the Afon Teifi. The arch springs from squared pilasters, which are wider on the northern side. It is constructed with cut stone voussoirs, and the arch heads are flanked by spandrels that have similar stone dressings. Above the apex of the arch, there is a raised string course made of cut stone. The pilasters above this string course taper into a coped parapet wall made of rubble stone, which rises to the north. The bridge has been extended to the north with the addition of a smaller arch, allowing the Newcastle Emlyn-Llandysul railway line to pass beneath. This additional arch features a grey brick arched head.
