Description

The Mansell Arms is a building constructed in hard red brick with painted stone dressings and slate roofs. It features a three-storey main range with a chamfered southeast corner, as well as two and one-storey ranges to the northwest. The southeast side has a ground floor Gothic arcade with five bays, showcasing painted carved stone capitals, brick piers with chamfered angles, painted stone pointed arches, and hoodmoulds. The windows are made of plate glass with painted slate sills. Above this arcade is a string course, followed by the first floor, which has two triplets of cambered-headed sash windows in stone surrounds with stilted heads, an impost string course, and a sill course. The second floor features smaller triplets of stilted arched windows with an impost string. A prominent brick eaves cornice, with some nogged brick, completes the design, and similar detailing is found around one window at the chamfered angle. The ground floor has panelled doors within a matching Gothic doorcase, while the first and second floors contain large cambered-headed sash windows.

On the southwest side, there is a similar ground floor Gothic arcade with six arches, five windows, and a door. To the left are two triplets of sash windows, resembling those on the first floor, with a string course carried around. The first floor has five pairs of similar sash windows with a sill course, impost string, and a string course above. The third floor features windows above only two of the five bays, with two pairs of windows similar to those on the third floor of the southeast side. The other three bays have a gabled slate roof.

To the left, there is a single-storey range with a four-arch matching Gothic arcade, a chamfered angle entry, and two similar arches on the end wall, all topped with slate roofs.
