Description
Cwmgwen Farmhouse, with an attached agricultural range, is a 2-storey, 4-window house made of rubble stone, featuring a slate roof and roughcast stacks. The house has unevenly placed windows and has been divided into two dwellings. The right-hand dwelling has three windows and a slate-hung front. A central doorway, topped with a segmental stone head, has a replaced door. The windows are 2-pane sashes. There is a tablet in the upper storey between the central and right-hand windows inscribed "Ed C Evans 1834." The left-hand dwelling is a single-window unit with a gabled brick porch on the right side, which has a fish-scale slate roof. It features a late 19th-century margin-lit sash window under a segmental head in the lower storey, and a 2-pane sash window under a wedge lintel in the upper storey. At the rear of the house, there is a catslide-roofed outshut that includes a dairy, with a central door that has glazed panels and flanking windows.
Attached to the left gable end of the house is a lower 2-storey agricultural range, separated by a vertical joint. This range is also made of rubble stone and has openings under lintels, a slate roof, and a stone stack at the left end. It features a wide cart shed doorway at the left end, followed by three doorways of varying sizes, a window with marginal glazing, and another doorway. In the upper storey, which was used for labourers' accommodation, there are three windows located below the eaves. Not inspected.
