Description
Wern Farmhouse is a two-storey building constructed of rubble stone with a slate roof and boxed eaves, featuring brick stacks at each end. The front has a central boarded door and a regular arrangement of windows beneath flat voussoir arches with keyblocks. The ground floor windows have a cross pattern, while the upper floor features casements.
Adjoining the right-hand end is a one-and-a-half storey range, also made of rubble and slate, which contains a dairy, cellar, and loft. This range has a boarded door, a shuttered square framed window for the cellar, and a three-light casement window for the dairy. At the rear of this range is a mid-19th century twin-gabled brick bakehouse and washhouse.
The farmhouse retains its original plan and simple period detailing, including a four-panel door to the parlour, stone flagged floors, and beaded boxed beams. The dairy features a salting slab along with original shelving and shutters. The bakehouse is equipped with an oven, twin coppers, and a corner fireplace with a chimney crane.
