Description
The Manse and Pelican are a pair of Georgian buildings dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. They are three stories tall with a basement and have three-window frontages. The Manse is broader and finished in stucco, while the Pelican is covered in cement render. From 1948, the Pelican was the home of Dylan Thomas' parents. Both buildings feature a slate roof and brick chimney stacks, along with an eaves band.
The windows are recessed small-pane sash types, offset to the right, and there are central Palladian semi-circular headed sashes with keystones. Each entrance has a bracketed hood; the Manse has a six-panel door, while the Pelican has a nine-panel door with a fanlight above. A plaque on the second floor of the Pelican indicates that "The two .... pine ends of this building belong to W and M Davies. Built by him in 1866."
