Description
The Pelican is a Georgian building that, along with the Manse, forms a pair of three-storey structures with basements and three-window frontages. The Manse has a broader and stuccoed facade, while the Pelican features a cement render. From 1948, the Pelican was the home of Dylan Thomas's parents. The building has a slate roof and brick chimney stacks, with an eaves band. It has recessed small-pane sash windows that are offset to the right, along with a central Palladian semi-circular headed sash window featuring keystones. The entrances have bracketed hoods, with a six-panel door for the Manse and a nine-panel door for the Pelican, both of which have fanlights. A plaque on the second floor of the Pelican indicates that "the two .... pine ends of this building belong to W and M Davies. Built by him in 1866."
