Description
Penycoed is a farmhouse constructed with unpainted roughcast and features slate roofs with close eaves. It is three storeys high with a three-window main range and two non-matching two-storey service wings aligned with it. The main range has roughcast end stacks and small-paned sash windows, with 12-pane windows on the main floor, 6-pane windows in the attic, and a central 6-panel door set in a fine timber doorcase that includes panelled piers and console brackets supporting an open pedimental hood.
The left wing contains one 6-pane upper centre window and two ground floor 12-pane windows, while the right wing is taller and features a two-window range of 12-pane sashes. Neither wing has a chimney. The right wing also has a lower outbuilding attached to its end wall. At the rear of the main house, there is a small 12-pane stair-light in the centre. The west wing has a gabled porch on its rear wall, and the east wing has a lean-to at the back, along with external stone steps leading to a loft door at the east end.
