Description
The Llanelli Railway Yard Goods Shed and Offices is a long single-storey structure built from blue lias rubble, topped with a slate roof. Attached to the west end is a two-storey office block, which is mostly of later date, along with an early 20th-century iron shed extension at the east end. The original shed features cambered-headed windows that are set high in the north and west walls, with rock-faced voussoirs, stone sills, and iron glazing bars. There are 13 irregularly spaced windows on the south side and 15 on the north. The north side also has four large ground floor openings; three on the left have been altered with iron lintels, while the fourth is likely original, featuring a timber lintel and a timber valanced canopy. The west end of the shed has a track entry with an iron lintel, and the east end opens into the later extension.
There is a broad platform between the track and the north wall, which may have been altered. The office block to the west is a two-storey, five-window range with a corrugated iron roof, sash windows, and rock-faced stone lintels. A change in stone colour indicates that all but two bays of the ground floor are later additions, and there are brick stacks present.
The condition of the building is deteriorating. It retains a complete original 17-bay roof structure made of pine roof trusses, which include queen-posts, collars, and diagonal bracing between the posts. These trusses support a large centre longitudinal beam with fixings for pulleys, braced by substantial diagonal horizontal beams, all beneath a boarded roof.
