Description
The building is an engine shed, a long rectangular structure with lean-to additions on the long sides and a lower gabled continuation at the rear. It features green-painted weatherboarded walls and a slate roof that includes a full-length slate-capped ventilator along the ridge. The north gable end has a track entrance that spans the full width of the building, which includes an added projection with a steel security shutter. The eastern extension is weatherboarded on its northern gable end but is primarily constructed of brick.
The main shed has an aisled construction supported by I section cast-iron or steel columns that are braced to timber wall-plates. The original aisle to the west has been lost due to later extensions, and the spaces between the columns have been partially infilled. The eastern aisle remains open, except for the northern bay, which has been enclosed to create a mess-room. The roof is supported by timber trusses featuring queen-posts and king-posts over the collar in the main span.
