Description

The Ex-Servicemen's Club is a three-storey building constructed between 1958 and 1960, featuring a street elevation with close eaves. The second floor is roughcast and has two windows fitted with late 20th-century glazing. The first floor is adorned with blue and white ceramic tiles arranged in a raised cement rectangular frame. These tiles are laid in rows of pale blue with occasional white tiles, separated by raised timber strips into nine vertical panels. In the second to fifth panels, there is a four-light window with wrought iron railings and cement panels below.

On the ground floor, there is a door accessed by steps, with a band of deeply recessed windows to the right and a plain wall clad in vertical strips of grey marble tiles to the left. The recess has a deep sill to the left of the steps, with the grey marble wall cladding continuing beneath it, along with four long windows and a door to the right. The basement on the left is clad with thin tiles made of a green rough-textured stone arranged in vertical strips. At the extreme left, there is a square cellar entrance with a studded plank door.

Inside, there are two medieval parallel barrel-vaulted undercroft chambers, which have a 20th-century render on the dividing wall and vaults. The vaults run parallel to the street and are segmental-pointed, divided by two segmental pointed arches with a rounded pier between them and rounded jambs on each side. The ground floor has been altered in the 20th century, but retains 19th-century details in the ceilings and staircase.
