Description
Globe House, which includes the butcher's shop of SB & RB Gleed, is a three-storey building with a basement and a three-window rendered front, dating from the 19th century. It features a slate roof with projecting eaves and brick and rubble chimney stacks. To the left, there is a two-storey bay with small pane sash glazing and dentiled cornices, along with paired sash windows in a swept roof dormer above. The doorways of the house and shop are topped with a wide bracketed hood; the house has a six-panel door, while the shop has a boarded stable door and a later bay window.
The left side of the building is finished in cement render with twin gables, a cill band, an end pilaster strip, a plinth, and sash windows. A cross range extends along the north side of Duncan Street, featuring a cambered archway with a keystone and double boarded doors that lead to a rectangular cobbled courtyard surrounded by whitewashed rubble inner walls.
Inside, the building retains original features such as Regency fireplaces, one of which has paired columns, along with shutters, cornices, and panelled doors. There is also a narrow ballroom in the cross range.
