Description

Pencraig is an early to mid-19th century, three-story, three-window house. The exterior is cement rendered over a rubble base. It has a moderately pitched slate roof with raking gable parapets. The building is double pile, with a narrower range at the rear, and the front parapet is pierced for a valley drain. A panelled parapet and cornice are present on the front elevation, along with an eaves dentil cornice and molded cornices capping the stacks. Rusticated quoins are also visible. The second-floor windows are 12-pane sashes with segmental heads. They have plain architraves with brackets supporting stone sills. Similar rectangular sash windows are on the first floor. Edwardian bay windows have been added to the ground floor, featuring tripartite rectangular bays with transoms and shallow top light sashes on the end and side lights. Each has a dentil cornice over its hipped slate roof.

The central doorway is round arched with rusticated quoins and a fielded keystone. A good segmental fanlight is above a 19th-century panelled door. Iron railings with decorative wrought iron panels on a squared stone base define the forecourt, along with contemporary double gates. A side door is located at the left end of the building. A stable block is situated at the rear, featuring stone voussoir openings and a hipped roof covered in asbestos.
